In a progressive initiative, the Lahore Education Authority is introducing a monthly stipend of Rs10,000 for transgender individuals attending government schools, with Government Girls High School Garden Town being the initial recipient.
This stipend comprises Rs5,000 as a monthly allowance and an additional Rs5,000 for conveyance, subject to an 80 percent attendance requirement. The District Education Officer, Nayyar Iqbal, highlighted the commitment to expanding such facilities based on demand.
Classes for transgender students, featuring free education, textbooks, and meals, have been ongoing for a year at the Garden Town school, emphasizing a holistic and inclusive approach to education.
