The caretaker Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunications, Dr. Umar Saif, has unveiled Pakistan's first-ever IT Export Strategy, aiming to increase IT exports in the sector by up to $10 billion over the next three years.
Developed in collaboration with international partners, including PricewaterhouseCoopers and faculty from the University of Oxford, the strategy outlines a vision to add 200,000 skilled professionals to the IT workforce, increase exports to $5 billion, and leverage initiatives like the dollar retention facility and the Pakistan Startup Fund to reach the $10 billion target.
Dr. Saif emphasized the role of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) in enabling the sector and attracting Foreign Direct Investment. The strategy focuses on human resource development, capacity building, freelancers' facilitation, startup funding, and creating a resilient IT ecosystem. Dr. Saif envisions Pakistan becoming a global IT hub with a significant increase in domestic industry revenue.
