Arshad Nadeem, the renowned javelin thrower, is set to be awarded $35,000 by World Athletics as a prize for his medal-winning performance at the World Athletics Championship. This translates to more than Rs. 1 crore.
Creating history, the 25-year-old athlete achieved an impressive throw of 87.82 meters, becoming the first Pakistani athlete to secure a medal at the World Championship.
In recognition of his achievements at events like the Commonwealth Games and Islamic Games, the government will also present Arshad with a cash prize of Rs. 5 million.
Upon his return from Budapest, Hungary, where he earned a silver medal, the athlete received a warm welcome in his hometown of Mian Channu. Arshad Nadeem expressed his appreciation for the reception and mentioned that with better facilities, he could have potentially won a gold medal.
Arshad Nadeem confidently stated, "If provided with world-class facilities and support, I am certain I can transform this silver medal into a gold."
Notably, in the previous year, Arshad Nadeem made history as the first athlete from South Asia to achieve a throw beyond the 90-meter mark, clinching the gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games (CWG).
